The Taiyuan-Haikou-Sydney air route resumed operation on May 19. It is the first resumed intercontinental air route in North China's Shanxi province after the COVID-19 episode.

Hainan Airlines operates two round-trip flights per week, catering to the needs of passengers embarking on this transcontinental journey. The outbound flight from Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, departs at 19:20 local time (Beijing time), ensuring a comfortable and timely arrival in Haikou, the gateway to South China's Hainan province, at 22:30 local time. Following a short layover, the flight departs from Haikou at 1:50 the next day, allowing travelers to experience a restful journey before arriving in Sydney at 13:10 Sydney local time.

The return journey is scheduled to depart from Sydney at 21:00 (local time) and arrive in Haikou at 5:00 (Beijing time) the next day. Furthermore, the departure from Haikou is planned for 8:15, and is expected to arrive in Taiyuan at 11:15.

Hainan Airlines first launched the route in 2018, and it is the first intercontinental route opened in Shanxi. Since its opening, the airline has executed a total of 282 flights.

The Shanxi Aviation Industry Group has recently announced the eagerly awaited resumption of the Shanxi-Sydney route. This development is poised to invigorate and strengthen the exchange and collaboration in economy, trade, tourism, and business between Shanxi and Sydney.

As of now, Shanxi has also opened an air route from Taiyuan to Macao, with schedules on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Afterward, Shanxi will gradually resume and add regular international routes from Taiyuan to the Americas, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
